چکیده

Natural waters’ carbon isotopes content is an important parameter in many environmental studies, as it hints to the water’s origin and history. Atmospheric water contain a certain amount of dissolved carbon dioxide, in the form of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon through their various species (CO2, HCO3 & CO3), which are commonly used for isotopic characterization of natural water [1]. Carbon possesses two naturally occurring stable isotope, 12C and 13C with the abundance of 98.9% and 1.1% respectively (13C/12C ~0.011) and one radioactive isotope (1 atom per 1012 atoms of the carbon in the atmosphere) 14C.

Influence of Mg2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+ Cations on 13C-18O Bonds in Precipitated Aragonite, Calcite and Dolomite: An ab Initio Study

The influence of metal cations on 13C-18O bonds in carbonates is still under debate. This paper used ab initio method to investigate this kind of influence of Mg2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+ cations on 13C-18O bonds in precipitated aragonite, calcite and dolomite. The polynomials of ∆47 and reduced partition function ratios (RPFRs) for 13/12C, 14/12C and 18/16O of these minerals were given within temperatu...

Carbon isotope ratio in carbon stars of the galactic halo

Weanalysed CN red system (∼8000 Å) andC2 Swan system (∼4700 Å) to know carbon isotope ratios (12C/13C) for carbon stars in the Galactic halo, named CH stars. The isotope ratios are obtained for 6 CH stars by the curve-of-growth analysis of the isolated 12CN and 13CN lines. In this analysis, we compared directly 12CN and 13CN lines of similar intensities (iso-intensity method), and the resulting...

Quantitative analysis of carbon isotopic ratios in carbon stars

We present the result of a quantitative analysis of 12C/13C ratios in 26 J-type carbon stars. The 12C/13C ratios are determined from lines of the CN red system around 8000 Å, using the iso-intensity method and line-blanketed model atmospheres. The average of 12C/13C ratios in the 26 stars is 4.7 ± 2.8 (standard deviation). All the stars studied, except for two stars, have 12C/13C ratios smaller...

Respective oxidation of 13C-labeled lactate and glucose ingested simultaneously during exercise.

The purpose of this experiment was to measure, by using 13C labeling, the oxidation rate of exogenous lactate (25 g, as Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ salts) and glucose (75 g) ingested simultaneously (in 1,000 ml of water) during prolonged exercise (120 min, 65 +/- 3% maximum oxygen uptake in 6 male subjects). The percentage of exogenous glucose and lactate oxidized were similar (48 +/-3 vs. 45 +/- 5...

Use of Isotopic Analyses To Determine the Authenticity of Brazilian Orange Juice (Citrus sinensis)

Isotopic analysis was used to characterize authentic samples of orange juice (Citrus sinensis) from Brazil. Site specific natural isotopic fractionation nuclear magnetic resonance (SNIF-NMR) was used to determine deuterium/hydrogen ratios at the methyl [(D/H)I] and methylene [(D/H)II] sites of ethanol produced by fermentation of orange juice. Stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry (SIRMS) was u...
